Australia’s National Research Organisation for Women’s Safety (ANROWS) is seeking a Research and Administration Officer (RAO), Research Directorate Leadership & Project Support to support the Research Directorate’s Director and Deputy Director on cross-Directorate priorities. This may include a range of research, project management, stakeholder liaison, reporting and administrative tasks.
About ANROWS ANROWS is an innovative research organisation established as an initiative of Australia’s first National Plan to Reduce Violence against Women and their Children 2010–2022 (the National Plan) by the Commonwealth Government and all state and territory governments of Australia.
ANROWS is a unique research organisation, being one of the only national organisations globally tasked with building, translating and disseminating the evidence base on women and children’s safety to inform policy and practice.
As a registered harm-prevention charity and deductible gift recipient, ANROWS also runs a research program funded by philanthropic funds (ANROWS Research Fund to Reduce Violence Against Women and their Children) and is periodically contracted by service providers and other government stakeholders to conduct evaluation and research projects.
This role will support a portfolio of research and evaluation, data analysis, and knowledge translation activities that contribute to policy and practice in the domestic, family, and sexual violence sector. This is an opportunity to work collaboratively across teams, utilising multiple skill sets.
Position can be based in Sydney or remote.
About the position This is a full-time position (37.5 hours per week) reporting to the Deputy Director Research. It is a hybrid work environment. The ANROWS national office is in the Sydney CBD; the role can also be performed remotely. The appointment is for a period of 12 months from commencement, with the potential to extend subject to continued funding.
Remuneration and benefits The salary range for this position is $89,993 to $95,481 per annum plus superannuation with the option to salary sacrifice.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the delivery of research activities across the Directorate. This may include research tasks such as conducting literature searches and reviews; developing talking points or meeting briefs for senior staff; fact-checking reports and communications; creating and updating charts and tables; and assisting with data collection, data cleaning and reporting. It also includes administrative tasks such as supporting directorate coordination and information sharing, ethics requirements, meeting planning and logistics, and referencing and formatting of reports.
- Support stakeholder engagement, including assisting with email communication with advisory groups, expert panels and stakeholders; scheduling meetings; preparing materials; and taking meeting notes and collating feedback.
- Support research project management, including assisting with project plans, task and milestone tracking, timelines, and monitoring project budgets, governance and contract arrangements. Provide support with travel management and reimbursement processing.
- Support the directorate in maintaining and improving internal online filing systems.
- Assist with team events, training and activity planning.
- Support cross-directorate learning and coordination by facilitating access to research findings across ANROWS projects and for external partners and stakeholders.
- Assist with coordinating the engagement and rostering of casual staff.
- Provide general support to the Research Director and Deputy Director as required.
Selection criteria
Essential
- A graduate qualification or equivalent experience in social science (e.g. psychology, sociology, gender studies, criminology or socio-legal studies).
- Demonstrated experience in social science research methodologies, including literature searches, referencing and bibliography management, and data management and analysis using tools such as Excel and SPSS.
- Demonstrated administrative experience supporting research projects, including strong Microsoft Office skills and advanced Excel capability (formulas, charts and data analysis).
- Strong analytical, written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated interpersonal, networking and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build positive professional relationships in person, online and via email.
Desirable
- DFSV research or policy experience.
- Experience with EndNote and Asana.
- Experience in preparing ethics applications.
- Demonstrated experience in project management methodologies, including the ability to monitor, track and report on research and/or projects.
- Understanding of issues affecting ANROWS priority populations, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, culturally and linguistically diverse communities and young people.
