FinOps Analyst
W.A.G. payment solutions
This role is a deep technical and analytical position within IT, focused on understanding cost drivers, usage patterns, and optimization opportunities across infrastructure and platform services. You will partner closely with the FinOps Director, Platform, Infrastructure, Engineering, Procurement, and Finance teams to provide accurate cost insights, support financial governance, and help improve the efficiency of technology spend.
The role is well-suited for a hands-on specialist who can work confidently with technical and financial data, translate infrastructure consumption into actionable insights, and support cost optimization initiatives across the organization. While the FinOps Director will lead most presentation and broader communication activities, this role must still be able to clearly explain findings and recommendations to relevant stakeholders.
- Proven experience in FinOps, cloud cost management, infrastructure cost analysis, or infrastructure operations with strong financial exposure
- Strong understanding of Azure services, billing constructs, and optimization levers, including reservations, savings plans, storage tiers, networking, and licensing
- Proven experience working with both cloud and on-premise cost structures, including hardware lifecycle or depreciation, datacenter OPEX, hosting costs, and software licensing
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret large volumes of technical and financial data and convert them into practical recommendations
- Experience with reporting and visualization tools such as Power BI and Excel; ability to work with raw cost data and automate recurring reporting where possible
- Good understanding of infrastructure and platform technologies, including virtual machines, storage, networking, backup, virtualization, and enterprise licensing models
Bonus Knowledge:
- Experience with AWS or GCP cost management
- Familiarity with hybrid infrastructure environments and enterprise technologies such as VMware, Windows Server, SQL Server, Kubernetes, or similar platforms
- Experience with automation or scripting for cost data extraction and processing
- FinOps Foundation Practitioner or similar certification is an advantage
Develop and maintain visibility of total IT infrastructure costs across cloud and on-premise environments, including compute, storage, network, licensing, and supporting platform services.
Analyze multicloud (primarily Azure) consumption and cost data to identify optimization opportunities, including rightsizing, commitment-based discounts, storage optimization, scheduling, and resource lifecycle improvements.
Build, maintain, and improve cost reporting, dashboards, and forecasting models using tools such as Power BI, Excel, and other cost management solutions.
Support the creation and maintenance of showback and chargeback models, including cost allocation logic and tagging standards.
Work closely with Platform, Infrastructure, and Engineering teams to understand architecture and usage patterns, validate cost drivers, and track realized savings.
Contribute technical input into budgeting and forecasting processes by providing reliable cost baselines, trends, and scenario analysis.
Support governance processes related to tagging, resource ownership, reserved capacity, licensing optimization, and lifecycle management.
Maintain and improve the quality, consistency, and automation of cost data collection and reporting.
Act as the subject matter expert for detailed infrastructure cost analysis, supporting the FinOps Director in preparing recommendations and decision-making materials.
Monitor cost anomalies, usage deviations, and inefficient resource patterns, and proactively investigate root causes.
